We are now anchored outside at Cotonou roads and will probably enter port by saturday evening.
For the first time in many months, Im the only one on watch. The 12-4 AB is off watch, which means Im the only one who is awake now in the entire ship. Responsibility.

I have just joined the vessel Maersk Copenhagen at the port of Cotonou. I will be here for the next 4 months. I hope this will be a pleasant stay unlike the last time.

Movie review Kaakaa mutta

I watched the movie kaaka mutta today. Its an interesting movie with a definitely unique storyline.
Since this is an old movie and the reviews are already done, I will let you know the part I liked in the movie.
The movie is based on the life of two young boys living in the slums.  For this the director chose thideer nagar in saidapet as the location of the plot.  This is what made me like the movie because I grew up in Saidapet too. For five years I lived in Saidapet during which I had the first of my memories. I also go to Saidapet regularly due to the reason that my mom's work place is in Saidapet.

A police parade

This is the first time that i saw a police parade live happening before me. Though it was not as spectacular as the republic day parades happening in Delhi or in a chennai I really enjoyed watching it.
This was a training for the upcoming rk nagar by elections which are about to happen on the 27th this month. The place is sir thyagaraya college at thandayarpet where I have been writing the mba exams each week end.

I have tried umpteen number of times to automate facebook group post trasfer to blogger..nothing seems to be working. The removal of fb grp channel has made online photo uploads and info really tough for me..for the time being i will have to do the updates part manually.

Nagore Hanifa and Jeyakandan

This blog post is about the passing away of two renowned personalities known for their creative talent in tamil society. Like many of his fans, I was also fond of the singular voice of Nagore Hanifa. I have heard one particular song that goes 'Iraivanidam Kaiyendungal Avan Illai Endru Solluvadillai' which when translated means 'God never says no to those who beg of him'. It is unfortunate for me that I don't know anything more about him or Jeyakandan, who wrote stories about people who form the fringes of the society that he saw and not the society that is normally portrayed by mass media. Eventhough death is inevitable, it is in their creations that they live through ages.

Stat. update - India wins against South Africa

Internet onboard is currently not working due to the blocking zone interference. We have tried many times to reset it, due to increasing demand for knowing scores and results of World cup cricket matches.

One thing that I observed is that there is difference in how people celebrate India's victories here onboard. Take for instance, the recent India south africa cricket match which India won. While people back in India can feel the reactions of Indians alone, the crew onboard here can see the reactions of the South Africans onboard as well. So, back home, it is a one sided celebration, whereas here, there is someone to defend the other side's performance too.
